Fire Safety
Prevention is better than cure. For example, make sure that your charger(s) do not overheat and that the extractor hood above your stove is clean. In case of fire, you want to be able to evacuate quickly. Therefore, it is very important to keep escape routes free of items, such as: garbage bags, crates, and bicycles, as well as posters and other flammable materials on the walls. You are responsible for this yourself, but DUWO also enforces this strictly, and the costs for removing obstacles will be charged to the residents.
Smoke Detectors
Smoke detectors must never be removed or covered. If you encounter issues with a smoke detector, submit a repair request to Property Services. If detectors are removed or damaged, costs will be charged. All fire extinguishing equipment has been inspected and sealed. If a seal is broken without a valid reason, the costs of re-inspecting and resealing will be charged. If you hear beeping or notice a defect, do not disconnect the device yourself but report it immediately to Property Services.
Keep the escape routes clear!
The hallways and stairwells in our complexes are essential escape routes in case of fire. DUWO advises residents to call 112 immediately in the event of a fire, warn fellow residents, and evacuate quickly. It is crucial to keep escape routes free of garbage, crates, bicycles, and flammable materials such as posters. These can become life-threatening obstacles during a fire.
DUWO strictly enforces the rule to keep hallways and stairwells clear. If violations are found, we ask residents to remove the items immediately. If they remain after a follow-up inspection, DUWO will remove them and charge the costs to the residents.
Together with the fire department, we also organize safety drills where students experience what it’s like to evacuate through a smoke-filled hallway. This raises awareness about fire safety, ensuring everyone contributes to a safe home.
