On January 16, 2025, the festive opening of the new student complex at Marijkeweg 20 in Wageningen took place. This modern building, which accommodates 350 students, was officially opened in the presence of Councilor Anne Janssen and other invited guests.

Collaboration in student housing
The new building at Marijkeweg 20 is an example of successful collaboration within the sector. The complex was purchased by DUWO and is rented out and managed by Idealis. During the official opening, Marije Pruis, partner and senior advisor at Fraey, spoke about the importance of solidarity in the housing corporation sector. Willem de Vreeze, general director of Aedes, emphasized that the collaboration between DUWO and Idealis is a fine example of how solidarity can be realized in practice.

Space for connection
When developing new student complexes, fostering connection is always a key focus. The building at Marijkeweg 20 is no exception, featuring various communal spaces: Rise & Relax, Bake & Bond, and Mix and Meet. The names pay homage to the location's history as a former bakery school. These spaces provide residents with opportunities to meet one another and engage in activities together.

During the opening, DUWO, together with Idealis, presented game packages to the residents, specifically intended for use in the common areas. Anneleen Lagae, Chair of the Board at DUWO, explained: “We see that our students often use the common areas for cozy game nights. With this game package, we want to further encourage that and hope that students will quickly feel at home.”

Looking ahead to the future
The opening of Marijkeweg 20 was not only a festive occasion but also a moment to look ahead. Bart van As, managing director of Idealis, expressed his enthusiasm: “Moments like these give us the opportunity to meet residents and hear how they experience living in this new complex. Moreover, we continue to work on new projects, such as Mansholtlaan and Bornsesteeg 2.0, to meet the growing demand for student housing.”

Alderman Anne Janssen also emphasized the importance of collaboration during her speech: “The partnership between DUWO, Idealis, and the municipality demonstrates how we are building a future together in which students feel welcome in Wageningen. Projects like Marijkeweg 20 are essential to providing them with a home.”

DUWO and Idealis look back on the opening with pride and wish the residents of Marijkeweg 20 an enjoyable and successful student life in their new rooms.
